Cityscape

There was no intention of loving you.
No deeper thoughts on what this
day, might do.
I fell right into you,
you fell right into me.
You tamed this wild heart,
you made it wanna stay.

This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around me.
This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around.
How this city won't let me sleep,
I need you beside me.
This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around me.

The way you take my hand in yours,
I hope you realize
I'm never,
I'm never letting go.
Restless heart at ease,
you stopped me dead in my tracks.
I'm never going back.

This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around me.
This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around.
How this city won't let me sleep,
I need you beside me.
This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around me.

Could it have been the storm that night?
Through raging waters I saw your light.
Was it the soft and dim cityscape?
The way those colors they danced on your face,
it made it so precious, so very precious.

There was no intention of loving you,
standing on the subway stairs.
I couldn't get you close enough.
Typical New York moment,
just a minute in our movie script.
I hope this start ends with you.

This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around me.
This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around.
How this city won't let me sleep,
I need you beside me.
This first kiss my last first kiss,
I need you around me.

behind the song

This song was written about two friends' detailed account of their first date. Unexpectedly falling in love on stormy evening in New York City -  I knew I had a song to write!  I am happy to report the lyric "I hope this start ends with you" sure did - the couple is now married. The album version is quite different from the released rough draft. We decided to swap the bridge and chorus, speeding up parts of the song quite a bit and slowing others down.
