Lost

This compass never leaves my side,
even when the day grows dark
with every pull of your tide.
Shadows separate with time,
leaving me no one I could hide behind.

But you lost me,
and I lost you.
This is you without me,
this is me without you.
All we'll ever be
is just a cold memory,
of how we lost you and me.

The mist from the morning sky,
seeps into my soul like a breath from above.
Feeling your thousand yard stare,
reach into this heart to uncover these words.

But you lost me,
and I lost you.
This is you without me,
this is me without you.
All we'll ever be
is just a cold memory,
of how we lost you and me.

You're pushing me so far away.
I'm pushing you so far away.
We're pushing us so far away.

Till you lost me,
and I lost you.
This is you without me,
this is me without you.
All we'll ever be
is just a cold memory,
of how we lost you and me.

The dusk rolls into night,
permeates these walls
that cannot hold me.
Taking every chance I had
to turn away and run
and never look back.

But you lost me,
and I lost you.
This is you without me,
this is me without you.
All we'll ever be
is just a cold memory,
of how we lost you and me.

behind the song

I wanted to write an intense, pensive, and dramatic song about love lost. I had been watching many of my friends' relationships fall apart with no resolution. I wanted to write a song that wasn't predictable and truly conveyed the sinking feeling of a collapsing relationship. This song came together exactly the way I had envisioned it, strings emphasizing the dark piano.
